Lift up your eyes on high and see:  who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of His might, and because He is strong in power not one is missing. Isaiah 40:26 ESV

I awoke at 2:30 AM with the same troublesome thoughts about my family that kept me awake numerous times in the past. I knew better than to just lay there and let them linger, each one growing more negative with every passing second; so I climbed out of bed and made my way to the kitchen, my favorite singing and dancing place, marked by a beautiful wooden sign on my refrigerator given by a dear friend that read, This Kitchen is for Dancing. Touching that sign, I stood for a while in the dark, eyes closed and cried out for help. I knew better than to allow my thoughts to continue spirally further downward.

     Help me Holy Spirit take my thoughts captive.

     Standing in the moonlight, surrounded by cabinets and appliances, I lifted my voice to heaven, at first, without much exuberance, but the more I worshiped, the easier it became to dance, my heart overflowing with love toward Jesus---the lover of my soul and the only one who had any answers.

     With my thoughts now focused on Him,  I stepped outside, sat on my porch swing and stared at  the stars. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves in the quiet, dark, morning. One star appeared especially bright against the black sky. My thoughts wandered again to the concerns for my family and for a moment, I took my eyes off that bright star. When I looked for it again, it was gone.

     Where did you go?

      Puzzled, I stood, moved to the railing and scanned the darkness keeping  my eyes focused on the spot where I thought it had been. Suddenly it reappeared, a thin, cloudy veil covering its brightness. A smile curved across my face and I rested a while longer on the swing in quiet awe of the beautiful star and pondered Jesus’ words, …I AM… the bright morning star (Revelation 22:16).

        My heart succumbed to an overwhelming peace and my body followed the calling of  my cozy bed to snuggle deep under the covers for a few more hours of sleep. When I awoke, I donned my walking clothes and tread up that familiar hill on the golf course. The golden sun peeked over the horizon.

     Father, speak to me. I haven’t heard your voice lately.

     Stopping to look around and enjoy the beautiful morning, I took note of several doves flying low in front of  me. It seemed as if they wanted to get my attention. Watching their flight pattern drew my eyes heavenward.

     A song formed in my thoughts, the Father’s song, and little by little the words came upon my lips and I sang it over and over as I ascended and descended the hill back to my  house.

       Heaven, heaven, heaven on the earth.

       Heaven, heaven, it is done.

       Awake, awake, my holy ones.

       Awake, awake, you’re clothed in my Son.

      Awake, awake, to your purpose, design.

      Awake, Awake,  your victory is won.

My fellow Kingdom seeking sojourners on earth, 

     In the midst of this chaotic world, a veil of unbelief can momentarily dim our light. It's only when we focus our attention on the bright morning star, with quieted hearts, that we awaken to our unique design and shine His love here on earth as it is in heaven. 

     It’s not what we do. It’s who we are in the Father before the foundation of the world. Christ finished the work when He died, rose again and brought us back to the Father. The challenge is to change the way we think and know His resurrection was enough---that He lifted us out of darkness and shines His light in us and every situation we face. Just believe in His love for you!

And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay

attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star 

rises in your hearts.” II Peter 1: 19 ESV
